Starting Wednesday, January 1st, those leaving their cars in the off-beach parking lots sanctioned by the Volusia County government will be facing a steeper fee. Each individual time beachgoers park their cars in the lots will cost them $20. There is however, an option which may prove cheaper to some: an annual pass is available for $100, the cost of five singular parking passes. Over 60 off-beach parking lots are owned by Volusia County, marked with ‘ParkVolusia’ signs. The county has said that it’s been preparing residents for the change by issuing communications and posting signage on the topic. Some residents have expressed aggravation at the hike, with many pondering the higher home prices they paid to be closer to the beach. Some of the lots under the county’s purview will be equipped with automatic license plate readers which will help enforce the new parking payment policies. One-day parking passes will be available via QR codes posted at the off-beach lots, as well as at self-serve kiosks. Those found in violation may be issued a fine, on top of the $20 daily fee they’ll still be required to pay. Registration for an annual parking pass is available both for Volusia County residents and those who reside outside the county. Those looking to purchase annual passes need to either visit www.parkvolusia.org or visit one of the two ParkVolusia offices: Daytona Beach Shores (2422 S Atlantic Ave) (Mon-Sat, 8:30 am – 6:00 pm) New Smyrna Beach (302 N Causeway) (Mon-Fri, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm)
