Volusia County Transitions To Sharecare For Future COVID-19 Vaccine Events

DeLand, FL -  Volusia County will transition to the state of Florida’s Sharecare preregistration website for COVID-19 vaccines on Monday, February 15.    The state’s website, myvaccine.fl.gov or phone number, 866-201-7314, is where you will register for this week’s first shot vaccine events, scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 16, Thursday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 19 at the Volusia County Fairgrounds. The County of Volusia and Department of Health will provide 2,000 first dose COVID-19 vaccines over the three days. Though previous vaccine events have been done as drive-through, effective Tuesday, Feb. 16, vaccine operations for first dose appointments will transition to a walk-up event at the Fairground. Face masks are required in the building. Staff and signage will direct individuals once on-site. On Thursday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 19, a closed event will be going on at the same time. It will only provide vaccines for individuals who received their first dose at the same location Jan. 21 and 22. These people should have a card given to them on the day of the first vaccination, with their date and time frame for this event. You will need that vaccination card to receive the second dose. You should have an email reminder, sent through Eventbrite Whether you’re going to the Farigrounds for your first or second dose, you are asked not to arrive prior to the scheduled appointment time. The state’s platform allows individuals to preregister for vaccine appointments and be notified when appointments are available in their area. To preregister, individuals should visit myvaccine.fl.gov or call 866-201-7314. Volusia County spokesperson Kate Sark says just because you’re preregistered, that does NOT mean you automatically have an appointment. You’ll need to wait for a phone call. "Once they’re signed up, they wait for a phone call. We work with the state to advise what our schedule is with the number of vaccines available. The state starts making calls to residents through that preregistration list." Sark says the state will attempt to contact you and will leave a message on the first try. They will also make a follow-up call.  Missing the call does not get you removed from the list. If all appointments are filled before you can call the state back, you will be moved to the next vaccine event. In an effort to make sure that residents aren’t scammed, the state will issue a handful of numbers that the calls will come from.  Sark said that they have been advised that specific numbers will be used for the calls. Additionally, you should not be asked for any private health information or your social security number. "It should be basic information to get set up for that appointment. So, be cautious when they’re asked and be careful because you should never be asked for anything else." Check back with News Daytona Beach for when the numbers will be released and what they will be. When called for an appointment, Sharecare representatives will ask for first and last name, date of birth, and email address and/or phone number; individuals will never be asked to provide their social security number. At this time the Volusia County Fairgrounds is only vaccinating individuals 65 years of age and older and health care personnel with direct patient contact.
