VIDEO: Drug Trafficker Hiding In Woods Flushed Out By K-9

DeBary, FL – A man wanted for drug trafficking thought he could hide in the woods and wait out the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, until they sent in a K-9. Deputies say they waited about an hour for Elger Johnson to come out of the woods early Wednesday morning (Mar. 2). After refusing to come out, deputies sent in a K-9 unit that eventually flushed Johnson out of the brush and into custody. According to the VSO, deputies were tracking Johnson around 2 a.m. and were ready to arrest him near Glen Club Drive when he took off fleeing in his truck and bailed out in the neighborhood. That’s when he ran into the woods and hid until deputies sent in a K-9. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of a pre-existing injury to his arm before he was jailed. After arresting Johnson, deputies found over 6 grams of fentanyl, 16 Dilaudid pills, 1 gram of crack cocaine, 2 Oxycodone pills, 2 Levorphanol pills, $690 cash, and other paraphernalia. Johnson’s arrest stems from felony warrants for trafficking in oxycodone, possession of cocaine, buprenorphine and cannabis with intent to sell, and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement. He’s also facing a slew of new trafficking and possession charges with his most current arrest, and a new count of fleeing or attempting to elude. Johnson was recently released from prison after serving a sentence for fleeing and other narcotics-related charges. His prior incarcerations include charges of carjacking, robbery, burglary and grand theft, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.
