VCS Opens For Traditional Learning Despite Incomplete Negotiations

 DeLand, FL – Volusia County students begin traditional learning today, despite the fact that negotiations between Volusia United Educators and the school district came to an impasse last week. VUE President Elizabeth Albert says though new cases of COVID-19 are decreasing overall, the number of people under the age of eighteen is on the increase. She said we know that shortcuts have been taken to reduce more financial expense and that mixed messages are being sent about wearing masks. "First and foremost, we want to ensure that the teachers and the students have what they need to be safe." Albert also said that the reopening is a chaotic mess and that the impasse came about due to a lack of leadership from the District and the School Board. "We have come to the table, really,  each and every time to work collaboratively to get through this so that our students benefit and we’ve been rejected, time and time again."   News Daytona Beach will keep you updated on the school situation.
