VCC Approves Redistricting Map Unanimously

DeLand, FL – New Volusia County Council boundaries, otherwise known as redistricting, were approved unanimously at Tuesday’s regular council meeting. The new boundaries will remain in place until the next U.S. Census in 2030. The redistricting process is designed to keep the districts as close in population as possible to ensure equal representation.  The U.S. Census found that Volusia County’s population has grown to 553,545. That makes the target population for each district 110,709.  The population of the districts ranges from 110,054 to 111,217.  The new boundaries will be in effect for 2022’s County Council elections. The five Council members who serve in the district seats must live within their district and are elected by voters within those districts. The other two members of the County Council – the County Chair and the At-Large member – are elected by voters countywide.
