VCBS Prepares For Unofficial End Of Summer

Daytona Beach, FL – Labor Day has long been the unofficial end of summer, especially at the beach. Volusia County Beach Safety (VCBS) said that early morning high tides are not expected to have a significant impact on vehicle beach access. Drivers could encounter soft sand on some parts of the beach in Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach.  Those sections of the beach are designated four-wheel drive only. There’s also parking available at one of the county’s many off-beach lots. Rip currents are considered an ongoing threat through the weekend and VCBS said it’s always best to enjoy the water in front of a staffed lifeguard tower.  It is turtle hatchling season with more than 300 nests still not open. To make it easier for hatchlings to access the ocean, beachgoers should flatten sandcastles, fill in holes, and take chairs and equipment with them at the end of their visit, as these are obstacles for nesting sea turtles and the hatchlings. Always stay clear of marked sea turtle nests.  It’s The Peak Of Sea Turtle Hatchling Season Beachgoers are asked to leave the beach better than you found it when possible. Do your part to properly dispose of trash this weekend, whether it’s in one of the 1,500 trash receptacles placed along the beach, or by packing it up and disposing of it at home. Trash bags are available upon request at all tollbooths and roving carts will canvass the beach to assist with the collection of garbage. Remember, alcohol, glass containers, and pets are prohibited on the beach. Vehicles must remain in designated driving areas and observe the speed limit.
