Father Convicted of Killing His Baby Son

Ormond Beach, FL –  A Volusia County Jury of six men and six women found Calib Scott guilty of First Degree Murder, Aggravated Child Abuse, and Neglect of a Child Causing Great Bodily Harm.  The case will now proceed to a sentencing phase next week to determine whether Scott will be put to death for the murder conviction. On June 11 of 2019, Calib Scott murdered his 5 month-old-baby in his own home.  Scott told detectives that he was struggling to control his infant’s crying.  When he couldn’t get the baby to stop crying, Scott dropped, slapped, struck, and slammed his child.  As the medics arrived on the scene, they found the child unresponsive and dehydrated.  He was taken to Halifax Hospital and pronounced dead a short time after arrival.  Further investigation showed the child had suffered multiple blunt force injuries on his body, including to his face and mouth, and he had thermal injuries consistent with a cigarette burn. State Attorney R.J. Larizza said of this case’ Baby Damon suffered through 5 months of hell and ultimately died at the hands of his father.  What he suffered is unimaginable. How could a father be so selfish and cruel?  We will remain dedicated to protecting the most vulnerable and precious members of our community as we prepare for the sentencing phase of the trial.’  Assistant State Attorney Andrew Urbanak and Heatha Trigones successfully tried the case for the State.  The Honorable Dawn Nichols presided over the case and will sentence Scott at the conclusion of the penalty phase which begins Monday. Also facing charges, in this case, is the baby’s mother, Stephanie Holly. After Daemon’s death, Holly apparently fled to Michigan amidst the investigation. Exactly one year after the baby’s death, authorities tracked Holly down and arrested her, charging her with neglect of a child causing great bodily harm, failure to report child abuse, and culpable negligence causing harm. Those charges earned her a $210,000 bond. She has been in the Volusia County Jail since she was extradited back to Florida. According to the Volusia County Clerk of Courts, Holly isn’t due in front of a judge until May 3, 2022. She was granted another continuance last month, her 16th continuance so far.
