Daytona Beach, FL – The suspect in an armed robbery at a Daytona Beach-area gas station last Sunday, June 27, is now in the Volusia County Jail after being arrested last night (July 2). Volusia Sheriff’s Office (VSO) investigators say 41-year-old Erik Dolyk, had both his mother and his fiancee in the car when he went into the gas station’s convenience store, pointed a handgun at the cashier and escaped with two money bags. Besides the video surveillance, which was eventually shown to Dolyk’s mother who confirmed his identity, detectives used the Volusia County Department of Corrections database of scars, marks and tattoos, license plate reader (LPR) technology, and social media to identify and locate Dolyk. The database found that Dolyk had hand tattoos that resembled the suspect’s. LPR technology led them to the suspect vehicle which was seen in the area Sunday afternoon and again in the surveillance video from Sunday night. After identifying the registered owner of the vehicle as Dolyk’s mother, detectives discovered she shared a prior address with him. A search of both of their social media accounts found several photographs of them together. Investigators contacted Dolyk’s and showed her the surveillance video. She confirmed it was him and told them that both she and Dolyk’s fiancee were in the car. "She said she wasn’t certain what he did in the store, but she suspected it wasn’t good because he went in wearing a face mask and sunglasses, and then came out in a hurry." Several locations were searched for Dolyk and deputies found him at the Baymont Inn & Suites, 175 Interchange Blvd., Ormond Beach, where he was taken into custody without incident. He was in possession of methamphetamine and a smoking device, and charged with possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of probation in addition to his robbery and grand theft charges. He remains in jail, being held without bond.
