The Volusia Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection to the stray bullet shooting of a 16-year-old boy in DeLand over the weekend. 25-year-old Travis Fowler has been charged with several felonies and was booked into jail on no bond. Deputies pulled Fowler over Wednesday evening and placed him into custody seemingly without incident. He was tracked down using surveillance footage and a monetary transaction at a gas station, the VSO says. While at the gas station, Fowler was reportedly seen on video arguing about money and using his EBT card. These details helped detectives pinpoint him as their suspect. Video of the shooting was able to be examined, reportedly showing Fowler firing a gun at someone else during a dispute on North Woodland Blvd in DeLand. One bullet was said to have gone throughn the window of a passing car and grazed a teenager in the head. Fowler lives in an apartment where the shooting happened, the VSO said in their report. He was observed leaving on Wednesday which led to deputies tracking him down and arresting him. The car he drove reportedly had an invalid tag, and Fowler allegedly had a suspended driver’s license. As they questioned him about the shooting, detectives were said to have been told by Fowler that was in Orlando when the incident occurred. This was before he was shown the surveillance footage which purportedly placed him at a nearby gas station just before the shooting. Fowler is charged with attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied vehicle, providing false information to law enforcement, and driving with a suspended license. Fowler has previously been charged in Volusia County with armed burglary among other comparatively smaller offenses.
