DeLand, FL – The DeLand Police Department is now investigating a second shooting in which someone was injured. An email from the police department says officers were dispatched to AdventHealth DeLand around 10 p.m. on Monday (Dec. 13) after medical personnel treated someone for a gunshot wound. When police interviewed the victim, they learned he was in a car visiting his friend on Sherwood Avenue when a car pulled up beside him. He said someone shot him once in the left shoulder and drove off. Then he drove himself to the hospital for medical treatment. Police asked if he knew anyone that would want to hurt him, but he replied no. The same answer was given when he was asked if he’s been having trouble with anyone lately. As police investigate this incident, officers are also investigating a shooting that occurred near Candlelight Oaks Park on Saturday. In that case, reports of gunshots brought police to the area around 9:15. When officers arrived they found several spent handgun shell casings in the roadway. No victims were immediately found, but investigators eventually learned that a 22-year-old male was taken to AdventHealth DeLand by his friend after receiving a gunshot wound to the neck. Anyone with information on either case is asked to contact the DeLand Police Department.
