Severe Weather to Hit Volusia, Flagler This Week

Officials in both Volusia and Flagler counties are advising residents that severe weather will be hitting the area over the coming days. Starting Wednesday and lasting over multiple days, a strong storm system will bring heavy rains both to inland and coastal areas. Volusia County officials will be removing port-o-lets, trash receptacles, and dog bag dispensers at the county’s beaches at the end of the day on Thursday, according to information reported by Hometown News Volusia. Meanwhile, the Flagler County Emergency Management Department advised the area will be seeing sustained winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour, with frequent gusts at 40 to 45 miles per hour. They recommended those with outdoor objects secure them, and prepare for minor tree damage and strong crosswinds on vehicles. Conditions in the Volusia-Flagler area are expected to hit their worst during the day and into the evening on Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued alerts for rip currents, high waves, and a flood watch. Following the severe weather in the late half of the week will be a strong cold front affecting the area. Weather forecasts into next week have highs in the low 60’s in much of Volusia and Flagler counties, with certain areas even anticipating highs in the high 50’s.
