Daytona Beach, FL – Planning on ringing in the New Year on the beach? Here’s a few things to remember. Volusia County has opened all in-season vehicular beach access ramps for use through January 2 to accommodate the increase in beach visitors. Presently, all beaches are open to vehicles from sunrise to sunset, tides permitting. Beach parking is also available at the many off-beach parking lots up and down the coast. As for fireworks, the county is asking residents to leave it to the professionals, or run the risk of repercussions. The use and/or possession of fireworks is prohibited on Volusia County beaches, and those caught with pyrotechnics on the beach will have fireworks confiscated and may be arrested. While Florida Senate Bill 140 allows the use of fireworks on designated holidays—like New Years—it does not apply to the county’s beaches. As a reminder, glass containers and pets are also prohibited on the beaches. And those who plan to brave the cooler waters are asked to swim in front of a staffed lifeguard tower. You can also download the free Volusia Beaches app for updates on beach ramps, surf conditions, parking availability, and more. Remember the golden rule of the beach: take only photos, leave only footprints!
