Proud Boys Organizer Ordered Back To Jail

Washington DC - A federal judge has ruled that Joe Biggs, a Volusia County resident and an organizer for the Proud Boys, is to be detained until he goes to trial. Biggs, 37, and 30-year-old Ethan Nordean—another high-ranking Proud Boys member—of Washington state were both ordered back to jail by Judge Timothy Kelly on Monday (April 19). This reverses earlier decisions made by other federal judges who released both Biggs and Nordean under strict conditions. Biggs was arrested by federal agents on January 20—the same day as President Joe Biden’s inauguration—in connection to the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol building. A criminal complaint affidavit from the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) argued that Biggs was seen in multiple videos taking part in the break-in. The affidavit further alleges that Biggs had a hand in organizing the event, which he has already denied. Biggs was also one of four Proud Boys members listed on a March 10 indictment that accused him, Nordean, and two Proud Boys chapter presidents, 35-year-old Zachary Rehl of Pennsylvania and 33-year-old Charles Donohoe of North Carolina, of conspiring to "commit offenses against the United States." According to the indictment, Rehl and Donohoe are affiliated with the Proud Boys movement and both serve as presidents of their local Proud Boys chapters.
