Port Orange, FL – This Lake Helen man is facing a myriad of charges after officers find him with a number of counterfeit cards, fake and real drivers licenses, stolen checks, and all the tools to make fraudulent cards. An arrest report obtained by News Daytona Beach shows Tyler Cherry is facing a grand total of 24 charges, all of which are an assortment of counterfeit card possession—of which he is facing 13 counts—and unauthorized possession of personal identification information charges, which landed him in the Volusia County Jail on a $56,500 bond. The Port Orange Police Department says an officer was driving east on Madeline Avenue when they spotted Cherry around 10 a.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 1) and noticed he might have had illegal window tint. But even after activating his emergency lights, Cherry didn’t stop until he reached the intersection of Town Park Drive and Bristle Cone Way. When asked why he didn’t stop, Cherry reportedly told officers he didn’t want to stop in a white neighborhood. Cherry also told the officer he didn’t have a license and asked him to take him to jail. After detaining Cherry, officers found about $1,709 in his pocket, which Cherry claimed came from his family’s trucking company. Officers also smelled marijuana and found about four grams in his car, but Cherry claimed to have a medical marijuana card; one that was apparently revoked in 2019. But upon further inspection of his car, officers discovered a printer, laptops, credit card scanning devices, documents, and a bank note illuminating light, all of which are commonly used with bank card and check fraud, according to police. In addition to the tools, officers also found a number of fake and real driver’s licenses, fake bank cards, and stolen checks. Cherry told police most of the electronics found in his car are actually his girlfriend’s and said all of the credit cards with his name on them were all legitimate, adding that he doesn’t defraud people. Police also found out that the checks found in his car were stolen from an Orlando-area business in November 2021. Cherry was ultimately charged with 13 counts of possessing counterfeit bank cards; two counts of possessing a forged driver’s license; six counts of unlawful possession of personal identification; along with driving on a suspended license and possession of marijuana. He was released the next day after posting bond. Records from the Volusia County Clerk of Courts shows Cherry had a first appearance scheduled for Wednesday (Feb. 2) and now has an arraignment hearing set for March 8. News Daytona Beach has reached out to the Orlando Police Department for more information on the November burglary. We will update this report once more information is made available.
