Daytona Beach, FL - Police in Daytona Beach say a 29-year-old motorcycle rider who hit a school bus after running a red light last Tuesday has died from their injuries. The rider, who investigators identified as Seth A. Whitmer, passed away at Halifax Health Medical Center on Wednesday (March 17th), eight days after he was rushed to the hospital as a trauma alert in critical condition. On March 9th, police were called to the intersection of Nova Road and Madison Avenue after witnesses called to report a biker that had crashed into a school bus. When officers arrived, they found Whitmer on the ground with severe injuries. According to a report from the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD), investigators belive Whitmer was headed south on Nova when he ran a red light at the intersection of Madison and Nova. After running the red light, Whitmer’s bike struck the front driver’s side tire and tire rim of the school bus as it attempted to turn north onto Nova from eastbound Madison. No injuries were reported by the bus driver or the 14 passengers—all of whom were students of Mainland High School. Whitmer was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
