A small airplane crashed into the water in Ponce Inlet on Monday, the city government confirmed. Fortunately, no one was reported as being injured. The plane was carrying an advertisement banner over the beach at the time of the incident, which occurred in the early afternoon. Video captured of the crash showed the plane appearing to try to land in shallow water, before flipping upside down after making impact. Prior to crashing, the plan seemed to lose altitude suddenly, descending quickly toward the water nearby. Responding agencies included the U.S. Coast Guard, Volusia County Beach Patrol, and Ponce Inlet Fire Rescue. One firefighter with Ponce Inlet Fire Rescue happened to be on-scene when the incident occurred, and was able to use his boat to help transport emergency response personnel out to the scene to tend to the passengers. As of Tuesday afternoon, little is known about the cause of the crash, identity of the pilot, or background of the plane.
