Daytona Beach, FL – Accused cop killer Othal Wallace is switching lawyers after hiring a private attorney. Court documents obtained by News Daytona Beach show Wallace is making the switch to St. Augustine-based criminal defense attorney Terry Shoemaker. Wallace was last in court on December 28, but the hearing was continued. Now, the Volusia County Clerk of Courts shows that Wallace is scheduled to attend a case management conference on March 4, but it’s not known if his change of attorneys will affect that date. Judge Raul Zambrano, the presiding judge, told both parties in December that he was concerned about the progress of the case, adding that in over 6 months no one had deposed the state’s 65 witnesses. It’s also unclear how Wallace was able to afford an attorney. However, it’s possible that donations could have helped Wallace land a private lawyer. One YouTube video titled “Othal Wallace aka Ozone needs more support”—posted by user OCTheGreatTV—claimed that two GoFundMe pages were established for Wallace, but both were taken down at some point. (Note, this video was posted on June 28, 2021, five days after the shooting took place). In the description of that video, however, two usernames for CashApp donations were provided. One of those usernames belonged to the creator of the video, OCTheGreatTV, while another belonged to a user titled “Black Nation.” There are also two websites provided, one called “WestAndWithOzone,” which was hosted by Wix but has since been taken down. The other website, Justice4Ozone, describes Wallace as a “Freedom Fighter” and claims he’s innocent and has been falsely charged because of racial profiling. That same site also has photos of Wallace, some of which show him dressed in tactical gear holding a rifle. Wallace has remained in jail since law enforcement arrested him at a treehouse in the Atlanta area. At this point in the case, not much headway has been made, but the state has already filed an intent to seek the death penalty. Just recently, Officer Jason Raynor’s name was added to the Daytona Beach Police Department’s fallen officers monument in front of their headquarters. His picture and name was also added to their wall of fallen officers.
