Ormond Beach, FL – Ormond Beach Police (OBPD) investigators are looking for answers as to who or what started a fire at Sanchez Park last week. They say it appears that the fire was set intentionally. Investigators say that the incident likely occurred between midnight, Tuesday, Dec. 14 and 6 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15. The fire was reported by an early moring walker. The jungle gym and several sections of vinyl fencing were melted by the fire and a swing and plastic car were burnt. Pointing to arson, they found a pile of mail, aerosol cans, and a pack of cigarettes. OBPD redacted thenames on the mail. A bottle of transmission lubricate was found outside the fence. The red lubricate in it was found on a pile of palms and pieces of cardboard, alsooutside the fence. Damage to the park is estimated at $50,000 by Frank Angelakis, an Ormond Beach employee in the leisure services department. The city will pursue charges when a suspect is found.
