New Smyrna Beach, FL - Starting Wednesday morning, the pups will be on patrol with New Smyrna Beach police as the agency launches a new program aimed at helping shelter dogs find a forever home. This is all thanks to K9 For a Day, a program done in partnership with the Southeast Volusia Humane Society. With this program, shelter dogs will be able to join New Smyrna Beach police officers on ride-alongs so the dogs can be seen around the community and hopefully find a new home. Not only does this program help residents meet a dog in need of adoption, but it will also help the New Smyrna Beach Police Department engage with the community and educate the public about responsible pet ownership. The program kicks off at 10:30 Wednesday morning (March 31st) at the SE Volusia Human Society off South Glencoe Road. Residents can also follow along online through the police department’s Facebook page.
