Daytona Beach, FL - The latest forecast tracks from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) puts Elsa—now a tropical storm again—at Florida’s doorstep by early Tuesday morning (July 7). As of the NHC’s 8:00 a.m. update, Elsa is currently passing between Jamaica and Haiti as it continues on a northwesterly motion towards the island of Cuba. Tropical storm warnings are also active in parts of the Caribbean, with most of Cuba under a TS warning and a hurricane watch. On Elsa’s current path, it’s likely that the storm will begin making landfall in the Florida Keys by early Tuesday morning, before continuing up the Gulf coast of the state. From there, forecasters expect the storm to make a turn to the northeast as it crosses the state. It’s expected that the storm will continue northeast through Florida and up towards Georgia’s coast from there. The City of Daytona Beach has also announced that sandbags are available to residents at the city’s public works facility today (July 4) between 2 to 7 p.m. The public works facility can be found on Bellevue Avenue. Sandbags are free, limit 10 per vehicle, and residents must bring their own shovels.
