Palm Coast, FL - A civil standby in Palm Coast eventually turns into a traffic stop where one man reportedly ran from deputies, leaving him charged with fleeing and resisting an officer. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) says deputies were called to the area of Rolling Sands Drive and Ruth Drive after a woman asked for a deputy to stand by her as she asked her boyfriend, 33-year-old Matthew Hargwood, for her house key back early Thursday morning (May 20). As deputies spoke to the woman, they spotted Hargwood approaching them on a motorcycle. Once Hargwood approached, deputies noticed that he wasn’t wearing any eye protection, which led them to detain Hardwood for the traffic infraction. According to a report from FCSO, Hargwood refused to identify himself and tried to start his motorcycle multiple times. Eventually, Hargwood fled from deputies, but deputies did not pursue. Deputies later located Hargwood’s motorcycle under an overhang at his apartment on East Moody Boulevard. Law enforcement soon set up a perimeter and a K9 unit later located Hargwood northeast of his apartment at the Cypress Knoll Golf and Country Club. Hargwood was transported to the Flagler County Jail, charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting an officer without violence, and operating a motorcycle without eye protection. He bonded out of jail later in the afternoon.
