A series of educational programs are scheduled for next month from master gardeners in Volusia County, the county government announced on Tuesday. At these four events, master gardeners from the community will hold instructional periods on maintaining a successful and environmentally-friendly garden. The master gardener program is part of a partnership between the University of Florida and several local governments. Master gardeners undergo an 80-hour training course held once a year and commit to 75 volunteer hours their first year followed by 35 hours for each subsequent year. The events are slated to be held at the following places and times, per the Volusia County government’s announcement: Tuesday, June 3rd – 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm (DeLand Regional Library | 130 E. Howry Ave, DeLand) Tuesday, June 3rd – 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm (New Smyrna Beach Regional Library | 1001 S. Dixie Freeway, New Smyrna Beach) Wednesday, June 11th – 10:20 am to 12:00 pm (Environmental Discovery Center | 601 Division Ave, Ormond Beach) Wednesday, June 11th – 9:00 am to 11:00 am (Sugar Mill Gardens | 950 Old Sugar Mill Road, Port Orange) Those interested in attending will also have the opportunity to bring in their plants for a free checkup on June 3rd at the Environmental Discovery Center between 10:30 am and 12:00 pm.
