Local Agency Helping Kentucky Tornado Victims

Ormond Beach, FL – Tornado damage in Mayfield, Kentucky, and other states in the Midwest happened nearly a month ago but survivors there still need help. Locally, the Jewish Federation of Volusia & Flagler Counties is trying to help.  Janice Sumner, Executive Secretary for the organization, said they’ve contacted a church in Mayfield to find people and families in need.  “The need is identified by the local agency. What we do, is write a check to the family but we send it to the local agency to make sure the family gets it.” Sumner said that they chose Mayfield because it was the hardest hit and they lost a lot of the town. “We thought, well, this is going to go on for years, this rebuilding and everything.  Obviously, we can’t help every single person so we just had to choose a starting point. We felt that Mayfield deserved to be the starting point.” She said they’ll go further afield as the need is identified and as donations come in.
