Hurricane Teddy To Bring Strong Surf, Dangerous Rip Currents

Daytona Beach, FL - Even though the county isn’t going to be directly impacted, beachgoers can expect to feel the effects of Hurricane Teddy throughout the weekend. And it won’t just be Teddy bringing rough conditions. Volusia County officials said that a ridge of high pressure off the coast will also impact beaches. Expected conditions include strong surf, dangerous rip currents, higher tides and strong gusts of wind thact could be accompanied by rain. In preparation for the poor conditions, the county’s coastal division will remove all port-a-lets and trash bins along the beach by end of day Friday (September 18th). It’s also possible that water will be shut off to some of the public beachside showers. Additionally, the high tide and rough surf may also delay the opening of vehicle access ramps on Saturday and Sunday (September 19th and 20th). County officials are encouraging beachgoers to consider off-beach parking. The county’s coastal division will continuously inspect walkovers and ramps during the event for erosion, and certain access points may be closed temporarily to address any safety issues that might arise. Weekend Weather The National Weather Service in Melbourne is forecasting rain chances to remain around 70% and 60% throughout the weekend. Temperatures, meanwhile, are expected to remain around the mid 80’s with lows near the mid 70’s on Saturday and Sunday.
