Gas Prices Cheapest Since July Ahead of Tropical Storm Idalia

Gas prices in the state of Florida have sunk to their cheapest price in almost a month, according to a new report from AAA’s Mark Jenkins. The statewide average cost per gallon sits at $3.70 as of Monday afternoon. The descent to $3.70 was the culmination of a drop of some 15 cents over a ten-day span, the report says. Residents of Volusia County should see slightly lower prices than the state average, with the county figure currently sitting at $3.69. Flagler County, on the other hand, is slightly above average at $3.73 a gallon. As is often the case, the cheapest gas anywhere in the Volusia/Flagler area can be found at Buc-ee’s and Sam’s Club on LPGA Blvd in Daytona, with both stations offering gas for $3.38 a gallon. Many motorists will likely be scrambling for a full tank with Tropical Storm Idalia expected to impact Florida as a hurricane in the next 48 hours. Also of note in Jenkins’ report, a Citgo station at the Port of Tampa had to stop selling gas and drain its tank after the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services identified a likely contamination of diesel fuel in regular gasoline at the station. With Idalia expected to make landfall in that immediate area, the human error that led to the contamination is a particularly untimely mistake.
