The cost of a gallon of gas in Florida on average is now the highest it’s been since the middle of April, according to a new analysis released by AAA. The three-month high of $3.65 reported by spokesman Mark Jenkins comes much to the chagrin of Floridian motorists who are becoming increasingly aggravated while waiting for reprieve. As has been the case with other notable spikes in the cost of gas, this most recent uptick is attributed to the rising cost of oil. The price of a barrel of gas is up to $80.58 as of Friday, compared to around $70.00 in early July. This increase is driven by a speculated rise in economic activity, which indicates more motorists will be on the road. Volusia County flies in slightly below the statewide number, at $3.64 on average. Flagler County errs slightly higher with a $3.70 average cost. Florida as a whole is lower than the national average, which is $3.75 as of Monday. Gas prices in Florida have been rising steadily in the last few weeks, with the state average of $3.65 standing higher than the number a week ago ($3.47), and a month ago ($3.29). Floridians are still better off, however, than they were one year ago, when gas cost $3.92 on average. Costs in the Daytona Beach metro area have risen on an almost identical scale.
