Tallahassee, FL - An executive order signed by Governor Ron DeSantis will limit who can be a part of the state’s first round of COVID-19 vaccinations. According to the text from Executive Order 20-315—signed by DeSantis on Monday (January 4th)—hospital providers are only allowed to vaccinate those who are 65 and older, alongside healthcare workers, and long-term care facility staff. Additionally, hospital providers may also vaccinate those they deem to be extremely vulnerable to COVID-19. DeSantis’ executive order comes as Volusia County starts it’s first day of testing, which was already met with a huge crowd. Per an email sent to News Daytona Beach by a reader, lines were reportedly stretching from Daytona Stadium—the vaccination site—back down LPGA Boulevard and out towards Williamson before 5:00 in the morning, when vaccinations were slated to start at 9:00. By 6 a.m., the vaccination site was at capacity. Vaccinations will continue in Volusia County on Tuesday (January 5th) at Daytona Stadium, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on a first come, first served basis. For Volusia County’s first #COVID19 vaccination distribution event at Daytona Stadium next week, @DaytonaBchPD has developed a comprehensive traffic plan for safety and efficiency purposes.
