Ormond Beach, FL - Troopers say a driver was killed and a 9-year-old passenger was seriously injured following a crash on State Road 40 in Ormond Beach. According to the report from Florida Highway Patrol, the 28-year-old driver was headed eastbound on SR 40 around 6:00 Friday night (August 21st). As the driver tried to negotiate a curve in the road, they lost control and traveled onto the south shoulder of SR 40 before the left side of the vehicle struck a concrete utility pole near Shadow Crossing Boulevard and the Hunter’s Ridge neighborhood. Troopers say the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other occupants were also in the vehicle, including a 27-year-old male, a 9-year-old female, a 5-year-old female and a 3-year-old male. Troopers report that the 9-year-old female suffered serious injuries while the other three occupants received minor injuries. An update on her condition is not available at this time.
