FCSO Granted Four Indictments For Homicide

Bunnell, FL - Three separate investigations have now come to an end after Flagler County investigators were granted four indictments for homicide. Two indictments were reserved for Derrius Braxton Bauer and Marcus Avery Chamblin, two men accused of killing Deon O’Neal Jenkins outside out of Flagler County gas station in October 2019. Both suspects were arrested on January 7th following a lengthy investigation. That same investigation, according to detectives, included around 2,000 hours of work and spanned parts of Florida, South Carolina, Virginia, and Southern California. 39-year-old Allyson Dawn Bennett is also facing an indictment for murder. A release from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) connects Bennett to the June 2018 death of 33-year-old Michael Joseph Burnett Jr. A grand jury concluded that Bennett had supplied Burnett with a mixture of heroin and Fentanyl which ultimately caused Burnett Junior’s death. Bennett was arrested on Wednesday (January 20th) at the Flagler County Probation and Parole Office on a warrant for first-degree murder. Also indicted in relation to a drug overdose death is 21-year-old Javian Neesmith, who is accused of supplying 39-year-old Dimitry Popkov the fentanyl that led to his death on September 1st of 2020. Neesmith was also arrested on Wednesday, but was already in custody on an unrelated drug charge. “Every overdose death in Flagler County is now investigated and prosecuted as a homicide,” Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly said. “There is no  more slap on the wrist for selling drugs that cause overdose deaths." A November 2020 report published by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) says Flagler County had 15 to 20 deaths linked to fentanyl in 2019. That same report found that Volusia County had between 20 to 25 deaths linked to fentanyl that same year.
