Fairgrounds Testing Site Set To Open Friday

DeLand, FL – Volusia County officials announce that the Florida Division of Emergency Management will offer another round of testing at the county fairgrounds starting Friday (August 14th). And, per the county’s release, drive-thru viral testing and antibody testing will be offered. Testing will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding Wednesdays. An appointment is also recommended to save time. According to county officials, viral testing will include a self-administered nasal swab test that allows you to swab your own nose while in your vehicle, supervised by trained medical professionals. No symptoms are required for the viral test, and results should take two to five days. Viral testing is also free for individuals five years of age or older, but child consent forms must be filled out for those between five and 17-years-old. Anyone over 18 must also provide a picture ID. Antibody testing, on the other hand, will require a blood draw. Results are available in 30 minutes and the test is free for those 18 years of age and older with photo ID. However, only 200 tests are available each day. “We are appreciative that the State of Florida responded to our request for an expedited testing site in Volusia County,” said Volusia County Chair and Volusia League of Cities member Ed Kelley. “Accurate and timely test results are imperative to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure the safety of residents and visitors. Officials recommend making an appointment for viral testing. One can be made by visiting doineedacovid19test.com. Once an appointment is made, individuals must print and bring their test voucher and a picture ID with them on the day of their test. Those who do not make an appointment in advance can register at the fairgrounds via their own personal smart device. The testing site is expected to operate for four weeks, pending demand.
