A deputy with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office is being disciplined after crashing his agency vehicle into a retention pond on Tuesday, Sheriff Mike Chitwood confirmed in an interview with FOX 35 News. Deputy Greg Ingram was on an I-95 off-ramp with his VSO K-9 when the vehicle went off the road and into the water. Fortunately, neither the deputy nor the dog were injured. According to Chitwood, Ingram was not responding to a call of any sort when he was driving 92 miles per hour. Instead, as the sheriff put it, he was “just acting like an ass”. The damage to the Ford Explorer was estimated at $73,000. Chitwood said that there would be “pain compliance” and that Ingram would not be receiving a warning for the incident. Dashcam of the accident appears to show the Explorer taking the off-ramp at a high speed before disappearing over the hill. A short moment later, a large splash of water is seen. “You could’ve killed yourself, you could’ve killed your partner, you could’ve killed anybody that was out there on the roadway,” Chitwood continued. “So there’s an investigation going on, I can tell you that he’s going to be removed from his special duties for starters. He won’t be a member of the SWAT team, he won’t be a member of the K-9 team, and then he’s looking at some other penalties that are going to go on there as well. It’s just stupid, there’s no reason for that.”
