Deltona, FL – A recent request by the West Volusia Chapter of the NAACP for Deltona District 1 City Commissioner Loren King to tender his resignation is not being ignored by Deltona Mayor Heidi Herzberg. The issue is that the city charter does not give the Commission a way to ask a commissioner to step down. “There is nothing in our charter that would state that the Commission can remove a fellow commissioner or a mayor. Our charter is clear on that so there’s no way that the Commission, in any case, can remove one of its members.” NAACP Wants Commissioner To Resign Over Oathkeepers Membership Herzberg said that Commissioner King addressed the resignation request made by the West Volusia Chapter of the NAACP on October 18 when the request was made. He made it clear that he would not resign. “Commissioner King addressed that on the dais and he also addressed it at a recent meeting we had a week ago regarding his membership in the Oathkeepers. He gave a timeline of dates and so on and so forth.” Herzberg said that as far as she knows, there are two ways to remove someone from the Commission. A recall could be called for, which is an extensive process, or the Governor can remove someone for cause.
