A Deltona man has been arrested by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office on accusations of stalking his ex-girlfriend. 20-year-old Jalen Vallejos is accused of breaking into the woman’s home to watch her sleep. According to a statement on the incident by the VSO, Vallejos was spotted by a patrol deputy on the evening between Sunday night and Monday morning walking with a ski mask and gloves on. He can be heard in the bodycam video telling the deputy plainly that he was planning to enter his ex-girlfriend’s home to watch her as she slept. Vallejos was asked by the deputy why he had a knife on his person, and if he planned to use it on the woman. He said he wasn’t planning to, before later clarifying it could be for self-defense if the woman’s father confronted him. He also reportedly had lock picks. Asked if he suffered from mental illness, Vallejos said he was diagnosed with anxiety. In discussing the lock picks, Vallejos appeared to mention a possibly locked gate, and said he’d taken his own father’s pickup truck to get to the area. Inside the truck, deputies discovered a backpack with duct tape, a pair of wire cutters, spray paint, and a sledgehammer. Vallejos was heard telling deputies he may use the sledgehammer either to forcefully gain entry or to defend himself. Vallejos was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on Monday with no bond. He was charged with aggravated stalking, burglary, loitering or prowling, possession of criminal burglary tools, and criminal mischief. He has no prior arrests on record in Volusia County.
