Deltona City Commissioner Nick Lulli submitted an email resigning his seat on Wednesday. Lulli was elected to office as recently as November of last year, but he now says he’s ineligible to hold his seat. “I look forward to connecting once I have a moment to catch my breath,” Lulli said in his email to the city’s administrative government. He thanked City Manager Doc Dougherty, as well as the city attorneys. In November, Lulli defeated incumbent Commissioner Jody Lee Storozuk with 51.0% of the vote. In an election that drew a turnout of just 7,286 voters, Lulli’s victory was won by a narrow margin of only 146 votes. Leading up to that election Lulli alleged that Storozuk had violated election laws and should be removed from the ballot, but he dropped his lawsuit after affirmation from Elections Supervisor Lisa Lewis and City Clerk Joyce Raftery. The next time voters will be able to decide their representative in the District 6 seat on the Deltona City Commission will be 2026. In the meantime, the City Commission will have 30 days to appoint an interim commissioner. Once a new commissioner is elected by the residents in November 2026, they’ll serve two years in office until the next regularly-scheduled election in 2028. That will set a normal four-year term.
