A woman in DeLand was killed on Sunday when a trailer door fell and hit her in the head. The victim was 71 years old, according to a report on the incident from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. According to the VSO, the accident occurred at around 12:15 pm on Sunday, July 6th at a garage located at 1710 Hontoo Road. The 71-year-old woman and her husband had been on-site working a trailer door. The husband was using a winch system to lower the trailer door when a cable unexpectedly snapped, the VSO says. At this point the door fell quickly and struck the woman in the head. After the door fell, the husband reportedly tried to pull it off of his wife’s head under his own strength. He was unable. He then used a vehicle jack to force the door upward, freeing her from beneath it. Emergency response personnel tended to the woman, but sadly her injuries proved to be fatal. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office in their report included condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
