The DeLand Police Department is investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide that occurred this past weekend, the agency announced Tuesday. One man and one woman have been confirmed dead in a residence on Cape Cod Road. The incident was initially brought to the attention of police at 11:06 am on Saturday, when they responded to a call at the home. They’d been told there was someone experiencing cardiac arrest. Two people were found unresponsive and later declared dead: 49-year-old Scott Waldron and 47-year-old Padmini Waldron. Further reports since the investigation began have shined more light on what happened. As first reported by the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Padmini Waldron was apparently helping to set up a birthday party for her 35-year-old autistic brother. A friend who was also helping with setup arrived to find the two bodies. The brother, who answered the door for the friend, is said to have told her that his sister had not yet woken up. After the grisly discovery, the brother revealed that he’d apparently heard a loud bang during the night. This provided some context to another detail noticed by the friend: Scott Waldron was said to have had a pistol in proximity to his body. The brother was held by police at first while he was considered a person of interest, but was ultimately transferred to the custody of the Department of Children and Families. Little else is clear about the killings. More details will be provided as they’re made public by the DeLand Police Department.
