DeBary CNA Charged With Sexual Abuse Of A Patient

DeBary, FL – A 72-year-old certified nursing assistant (CNA) is charged with sexually abusing a patient who has dementia at DeBary Health & Rehab. Richard Pratt was seen by another staff member abusing the patient while she was in her room with a curtain pulled shut around her bed. Pratt was also observed kissing the patient twice on her mouth. The incident was reported Wednesday afternoon. Volusia Sheriff’s investigators interviewed the victim who confirmed that she is one of Pratt’s patients but said she could not recall what happened. Pratt told investigators that he takes care of 10 patients, with duties to include helping patients walk, sit or lie down, eat, or perform personal hygiene. He denied the sexual abuse allegations. The charge is sexual abuse of a victim over the age of 18 with mental defects.  He’s out of jail on a $15,000 bond.  This investigation is continuing.
