The Daytona Beach Police Department is investigating an accident this week that resulted in the death of a child pedestrian, the agency announced on Thursday. The accident occurred on Wednesday, April 23rd at approximately 8:21 pm. According to the DBPD’s statement, a child had left the family residence on the 2900 block of N. Halifax Ave to pursue the family’s dog which had escaped. While following after the dog, the child was said to have walked into the road and been struck by two different vehicles in succession. DBPD officers were called to the scene and were able to locate the child. They were said to have sustained severe, life-threatening injuries from the impact. The child was taken to the hospital for treatment, but was unfortunately later pronounced dead. No other information is known as of Thursday, including whether any individuals involved with the tragedy may be charged with a crime. The DBPD’s investigation is currently ongoing, and any further details provided will be reported as they’re made available.
