Convicted Felon Charged With Aggravated Battery On DBPD Officers

Daytona Beach, FL – Two Daytona Beach police officers are recovering from minor injuries and convicted felon 39-year-old Kary Jarvis is in the Volusia County Jail being held without bond. DBPD says  Jarvis dragged the officers when he took off in his car during a traffic stop. On Friday afternoon, October 23, DBPD responded to a suspicious vehicle call in the 1500 block of Virginia Avenue. They arrived to find the described car, a blue Mitsubishi, leaving the area. The patrol car followed the car to the RaceTrac gas station at South Ridgewood Avenue and Beville Road. At this point, officers got the identity of who the car was registered to. Jarvis put gas in his car, got in, and failed to come to a complete stop at the stop bar coming out of the gas station to Beville Road. He then drove all the way across Beville Road to make a right turn onto South Ridgewood Avenue. The officer followed the suspect’s car and noticed he was making movements around the steering wheel and center console. Jarvis turned right and the officer hit his emergency lights. As Jarvis pulled over, two officers approached his vehicle, one on either side. They asked him if they could search his vehicle. The officers’ report states that Jarvis became aggressive, stating that he didn’t do anything wrong. After numerous requests and commands, Jarvis got out of his vehicle. He was informed that because of his movements, they were allowed to search because they didn’t know if he had drugs or weapons.  Jarvis became more aggressive and got back in his car. The officers grabbed his left arm to try to pull him back out. He put the car in drive and pulled away quickly with both officers hanging on to his arm and the car. One officer was able to release and roll away with only minor injuries. The second officer was not able to release until Jarvis lost control of the car. He was thrown and rolled into a tree striking the middle of his back. The car kept traveling ending up in a retention pond on Beville Road at South Palmetto  Avenue. The second officer went over to Jarvis’ car, pulled his handgun, and held him at gunpoint while he got out. Jarvis and both officers were taken to Halifax Medical Center to be checked out.  A search of Jarvis vehicle found 5.6 grams of Heroin/Fentanyl hid in the vents of the car along with drug paraphernalia. Also found were six knives. There was a switchblade, a spring-loaded knife, and four pocket knives. Jarvis is charged with two counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated fleeing and eluding, trafficking in a Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest with Violence, and Unlicensed Carrying of a Concealed Weapon. He was out on bond, pending a case he was arrested for on June 25, 2020, for Possession ofMethamphetamine, and Riding on a Sidewalk (City Ordinance).
