Daytona Beach Shores, FL – Firefighters say it was the battery pack of a scooter that sent units to a Daytona Beach Shores resort early Monday morning. Units from Daytona Beach, Daytona Beach Shores, Port Orange, and Ponce Inlet responded to the Hawaiian Inn Beach Resort on South Atlantic Avenue just after 1:00 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the south stairwell balcony on the third floor. Portions of the third floor were evacuated so units could tend to the fire. It took about 15 minutes for firefighters to control the smoke and fire. Once it was taken care of, units found that a battery pack of an electric scooter malfunctioned and exploded, setting a phonebook on fire. No one was injured as a result of the fire.
