DeLand, FL - Fire officials are investigating after a blaze breaks out at a DeLand automotive shop. Crews were called to the scene on South Woodland Boulevard at 1:43 Thursday afternoon (June 24) after witnesses had reported flames emanating from the roof. All occupants were able to escape with no injuries reported. The building itself sustained major damage. At the moment, officials believe lightning to be the cause for the fire as a large storm had moved through the area at the time. Regardless, the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate the fire. As of almost 4:15 p.m., Woodland Boulevard remains shut down to northbound traffic at New Hampshire Avenue, though southbound traffic has reopened. Motorists are still advised to take other routes as crews clean up the area. Crews from Volusia County Fire Rescue and the fire departments of Deltona and Orange City also assisted DeLand firefighters.
