Argument Over Broken Bottle Lands One In Jail, One In Hospital

Seville, FL - A shooting that stemmed from an argument over a broken bottle lands one man in the hospital and another man in jail. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office (VSO) says deputies responded around 9 p.m. to a report of a man who was shot with birdshot. The victim was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach with non-life-threatening injuries to the left side of his body. He later identified the shooter as his friend, 62-year-old Randy Crowder. Crowder fled the area after the shooting, but deputies later found him as a passenger in a vehicle traveling back to the scene. He was then taken into custody. Investigators say the victim was hanging out in an empty lot known as “the Corner” in the area of Lawrence and Princeton streets in Seville. The victim stated he threw a bottle in a trash can and it broke, prompting his lifelong friend, Crowder, to become angry and start an argument. The victim left but came back about 20 to 30 minutes later. When he returned he found Crowder standing by the open trunk of his vehicle. That’s when Crowder retrieved what appeared to be a shotgun and fired one shot. Crowder is now charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail where he was being held Friday morning (September 10) on $5,000 bond.
