The new Aldi location in Ormond Beach will be opening on Thursday, December 18th according to a new statement from the supermarket corporation. The store will be located at 353 West Granada Boulevard, where a Winn-Dixie used to be located. “We’re stocking our shelves with aisle after aisle of products you’ll love, and we can’t wait to meet you!” Aldi said in an announcement on their website. “The grand opening for our new grocery store in Ormond Beach is right around the corner, and so are your savings. We’ve got everything from fresh produce delivered daily to everyday essentials you can never have enough of.” The first 100 people in line on grand opening day will reportedly be receiving a ‘golden ticket’ that can be used for up to $100 in Aldi shopping. They’ll also get a goodie bag in the form of a free reusable Aldi shopping bag stocked with gifts. There will also be a raffle being held on opening weekend for a $500 gift card. Aldi was founded in 1946 by Karl and Theo Albrecht in Germany. The company has expanded to over 13,000 locations worldwide as of 2025. Most of their stores are in various European countries, though over 2,600 American locations have been opened since Aldi came to the United States in 1976. In recent years, Aldi has become the fastest-growing supermarket chain in the United States. The brand’s low-cost line of generics in grocery and home goods have made them a popular alternative to Publix for Floridians as the economic stresses of inflation have begun to impact the nation. Aldi is also well-known for its shopping cart system: customers must insert a quarter into the cart in order to release it from the corral, and only upon returning it to the store themselves do they receive their quarter back. The stores are also known for allowing their cashiers to sit down, challenging a decades-old standard in American supermarket shopping. “I can’t comprehend how low the prices are for the quality, organic foods that they sell,” said a Texas shopper named Brisania Ortiz in an interview with The New York Times earlier this year. “It feels like I’m at a bougie store, but I’m not paying bougie prices.” Aldi bought out Winn-Dixie in March 2024, sparking the transition of many Winn-Dixie locations into Aldi stores that year. In February 2025, they sold it and Harveys Supermarket to private investors, maintaining their ongoing store conversions including the one on Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach.
