Vaccinations are ramping up as AdventHealth announces the upcoming rollout of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. However, despite the impending arrival of the vaccine, physicians are telling the public that everyone needs to continue vigilance against the spread of COVID-19. “The vaccine has certainly brought us hope that the virus will be over soon, but this is not the time to let our guard down,” said Dr. Max Baumgardner, an emergency-medicine physician at AdventHealth Orlando. AdventHealth noted in a press release that the vaccine rollout is expected to begin sometime soon, with 11,000 doses reportedly coming to the Central Florida area. And that’s not all, AdventHealth additionally stated that they have opened an infusion clinic offering leading-edge treatment with monoclonal antibodies at their facility in Orlando. Additional clinics are slated to open in January—which includes a Volusia County location in Orange City. These antibody treatments—per AdventHealth—are for COVID-positive outpatients at risk of progressing to a more severe case of the disease. A doctor’s prescription is required for treatment. "We’ve treated several dozen now in these infusion centers,” said Dr. Vincent Hsu, epidemiologist and AdventHealth’s infection control officer. “The demand has been quite strong. We can get these patients treated and, if necessary, we will expand our clinics.” At the time of this writing, the vaccine is still not available to the public at any AdventHealth facilities.
