AAA: Gas Prices Continue Downward Trend

Daytona Beach, FL - AAA is reporting another round of discounts at the pump as Florida’s average price of gas dips down another four cents. And even though the state’s average hangs around $2.13 per gallon (regular unleaded), some drivers will be able to find prices much lower than that at the pump. According to AAA, Sunday’s (September 20th) average is also 37 cents less than this time last year. It’s well below 2020’s high of $2.56 per gallon—which was reported in January—yet 37 cents more than this year’s lowest daily price of $1.76 per gallon—reported in May. "Gas prices have trickled lower since Labor Day weekend, which is traditionally the end of the summer driving season," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA. "Florida drivers may see the state average slip below $2.10 this week." Jenkins further added that there are some opposing factors that are affecting the market. "While expectations of lower seasonal demand has helped pressure prices lower, gasoline supplies have also recently dipped, which led to strong gains in wholesale gas prices last week." According to Jenkins, the nation’s gas supply is 5% lower than a month ago. The lower supply comes as refineries along the Gulf Coast go through temporary shutdowns, either for storm activity or seasonal maintenance. In the local markets, Volusia County’s average price dropped four cents to $2.13 per gallon (regular unleaded), which puts the county on par with the state’s average. Flagler’s average, however, dropped lower than Volusia’s after both counties started the previous week at the same price of $2.17. Since then, Flagler’s average dropped six cents to $2.11. West Palm Beach-Boca Raton had the highest average in the state once again with $2.25 per gallon while Punta Gorda had the lowest again at $2.04. The national average is $2.18
