DeLand, FL – Two students are apparently behind a GoFundMe campaign made to support a student seriously injured in a fight at DeLand High School. An email sent to News Daytona Beach says the campaign was started by two students who felt bad about what had happened to their classmate, 14-year-old Abraham Castillo. While they don’t know Castillo personally, a source—who also wishes to remain anonymous—emailed News Daytona Beach and said they want to help his family anyway. The source also said the students plan on distributing fliers about Castillo and the online campaign around their school and church. Castillo was taken to the hospital following a brawl at DeLand High School in February. In total, seven students were involved in that fight, and all are currently facing charges, per the last report. Also facing charges is 17-year-old Charles Jordan, who reportedly picked up Castillo and dropped him on the ground, landing him on his head and neck. Castillo was rushed to the hospital after that in critical condition. According to the campaign, Castillo currently remains hospitalized at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando. He was originally taken there with an intracranial hematoma—when blood collects in the skull—and had to undergo surgery for a blood clot near his brain. At this time, Castillo apparently has a hard time walking and eating and is in a lot of pain. The campaign has so far raised $1,185 of its $5,000 goal.
