DeLand, FL – No one ever looks forward to dealing with their taxes. But with a little bit of free help for low income families, it doesn’t have to be as arduous. After taking hiatuses in 2020 and 2021, the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties announced that it is bringing back its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which aims to offer free help to families whose annual income for 2021 was at or below $54,000. Help will be offered at multiple locations around the county. The help will come from 25 Stetson University students who are part of the M.E. Rinker Sr. Institute of Tax and Accountancy program; all of whom have volunteered their time for free. A number of community partners, such as VyStar Credit Union, Stetson University, Volusia County Human Services, the City of Daytona Beach, and Bethune-Cookman University, have all stepped forward to make the program possible. Appointments are required and can be made online through the United Way VITA Website. You can also view this flier to see where you can get help and what documents you’ll need to bring with you. The program ends April 15, three days before taxes are due.
