Daytona Beach, FL – A fire that damaged most of a beachside home in Daytona Beach is under investigation, and so far a water heater could be to blame. Daytona Beach Fire Department Spokesperson Sasha Staton says the fire broke out at a home on Morningside Avenue Saturday night (Jan. 29). Two people were evacuated from the home and the fire department reports that they were not injured. They are now receiving assistance from the Red Cross. So far signs point towards a malfunctioning water heater as the cause, but the state fire marshal has been called in to investigate further. As a result of the fire, much of the home—including the basement area, rear deck, and two bedrooms—received extensive damage. Units battled the fire as temperatures in Daytona Beach dropped into the 30s, all while a freeze warning was in effect for most of the Central Florida area. We will pass along additional updates as they are made available.
