Deltona, FL – A Heritage Middle School employee is facing charges after investigators learned of an early morning meet up where they smoked marijuana with a student. 41-year-old Kristen Williams was arrested overnight, charged with child abuse without great harm and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Deputies say the charges stem from a meetup Williams had with a 14-year-old student at 1:30 Wednesday (Dec. 29) morning. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident around 2:30 when the child’s parents called to report the incident. The student’s stepfather told deputies he drove around the neighborhood looking for him when the mother discovered multiple incoming calls on their home phone’s call logs. When the mother called the number, the son arrived back at their home, and looked to be under the influence of marijuana. He told his parents that he met Williams near his neighborhood around 1:30 and smoked with her in her van. When he saw his mother was calling, he had Williams drop him off. Investigators learned from Williams that she acts as a mentor to 6th graders at Heritage, communicates regularly with them in a group chat, and that the 14-year-old had been in her vehicle and to her residence in the past to spend time with her son. According to deputies, there are no allegations of any sexual abuse during this incident or in any prior encounters. Williams was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail and was released on a $3,000 bond.
