Palm Coast, FL – It started with a call about people yelling and screaming near a car. But when officers finally found the vehicle in question, it turned into a drug bust. That call about the disturbance was made on Tuesday (Dec. 14), after the reporting party said the three occupants of the vehicle left the scene on Kingswood Drive. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said deputies later found the vehicle on Royal Palms Parkway, and decided to conduct a traffic stop so they could check on the occupants. As deputies spoke with the occupants—identified as 23-year-old Jayla Steward, 41-year-old Brett Savage, and 27-year-old Cozy Jones—they noticed a smell of marijuana coming from the car, prompting a search. That’s when authorities found 13 grams of a brown substance that tested positive for fentanyl. Deputies additionally identified Jones as someone who was wanted by the Ormond Beach Police Department for aggravated battery. During their investigation, deputies determined that the substance belonged to Steward. And while Savage spoke to deputies, they noticed he began to move as if he was trying to discard something. That led to the discovery of a folded lottery ticket that contained methamphetamine. According to FCSO, all three subjects have been previously arrested on multiple drug and narcotics possession charges. Steward is now charged with fentanyl trafficking, earning her a $25,000 bond; Savage was arrested and charged for methamphetamine possession, landing him a $2,500 bond; and Jones was arrested on his charges from Ormond Beach for domestic battery by strangulation and false imprisonment. He remains in jail with no bond.
